Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

The TNT deliver guy turned up yesterday after the mailing room staff have left. So my Snow Leopard parcel got returned to the depot and had to be re-delivered this morning. I got to the office around 3 in the afternoon, picked up the parcel then went straight to my partition, ready for the upgrade.

Since I’ve prepared my MacBook for the upgrade a few days ago, I slotted the installation disc in and Snow Leopard was being installed.

The installation took around an hour so I kept working on the work pc.

After almost an hour, it was done!

A really weird pop up window appeared upon the first start up.

Did know what this was about, so I tried to find it out online. Anyways, after a long search here and there, I gave up. Picked up the phone and rang Apple Support. The technician didn’t know why there’s such a pop up window but what he knew was that System Events.app is an application on the Mac OS X Snow Leopard Install Disc and he was very positive about it. So I decided to eject the DVD and reboot the system, just to see if this window pops up again. The answer was, no. So it’s all good now!

I’ve only been using my Snow Leopard MacBook for 2-3 hours to this point and I’ve already found a lot of enhancements! Here are some of the obvious ones!

  • Freed about 9GB of hard drive space
  • Much more user-friendly Exposé, dragging and dropping files across apps are so easy now with the improved Dock
  • Stacks are now GREAT with grid view, in fact I love using it
  • It’s now easier to tell when you’re moving between Spaces
  • I love the new Quicktime X (it now plays .avi files too)
  • The default Chinese font is different, I personally like it although I’m hearing a lot of negative feedbacks
  • Switching between different language inputs are easier now, especially if you use more than 2 languages. Like myself, I switch between English, Simplified & Traditional Chinese all the time. You can now hold the ‘command’ key, hit spacebar multiple times to switch between them (you may have different short cut keys).

Well, that’s it so far. It’s getting late and I’m super sleepy today. Will keep you guys updated when I find out more interesting features yet not publicised as much.

Busy week~~~

The past 2 weeks have been very hectic and was indeed busy as hell… Had no personal time at all. There were deadlines to meet, clients to meet, proposals to draft & exams to prepare for… so on so on… Now that it’s all behind, I can finally sit down quietly at home. Feels like the past 2 weeks has been such a wonderful time. I’m the type of person that likes to have a very tight schedule. I love being occupied with appointments and tasks. So now that I’m sitting down in front of the computer, I just wish that the following weeks and months can also be so occupied.

On Saturday night, I was finally able to have some time for my friends. After my exam in Kowloon Bay, I met up with @nefuis at Mongkok to have a look around at computer stuff, mainly MacBook and MacBook Air. After not buying anything, we went to a restaurant where we could smoke for dinner. Sat down and chatted for hours!

After dinner, it was already fairly late. I purposely walked all the way from Mongkok to the Western Harbour Tunnel to catch a bus home. I like walking pass that area. Whenever I see those fruit distributors start work so early in the morning, I would feel very grateful that I can be in a job where I have such flexible working hours. Another reason is so I can bypass my favorite Chinese dessert place in Jordan.

I sat down and asked for my usual order. The lady said, it’s sold out! Okay, went for my 2nd favorite. Also sold out! Then I asked what’s left? She said, mainly the hot stuff (it’s not that I don’t like the hot stuff, it’s just that after all that walking, I wanted something cold). So I said, well… I’ll come back some other time then… and I left kinda disappointed.

I continued my journey home and finally got home around 03:00 in the morning.

First blog in 2009

Woke up fairly late today. As soon as I got up, checked Twitter, Kingdom Game, Facebook then all my emails. There’s no appointments today apart from attending the ‘End of Year’ dinner with Mum’s company.

I sat down on my couch and started thinking about the plans that I’ve made just before the New Year’s and was wondering… ‘What have I done so far?’ The answer seems to be… ‘Nothing… yet…’

I’ve always been giving excuses for not doing something. I’ve told myself that I have to change this really bad habit… but nothing has changed. There’s always excuses that I can find, not matter what.

“Time to change… Time to change… Time to change…”

“Just do it… Just do it… Just do it…”

Oh by the way… It’s Apple’s Special one-day shopping event today! Today Only.
