The TNT deliver guy turned up yesterday after the mailing room staff have left. So my Snow Leopard parcel got returned to the depot and had to be re-delivered this morning. I got to the office around 3 in the afternoon, picked up the parcel then went straight to my partition, ready for the upgrade.

Since I’ve prepared my MacBook for the upgrade a few days ago, I slotted the installation disc in and Snow Leopard was being installed.

The installation took around an hour so I kept working on the work pc.

After almost an hour, it was done!

A really weird pop up window appeared upon the first start up.

Did know what this was about, so I tried to find it out online. Anyways, after a long search here and there, I gave up. Picked up the phone and rang Apple Support. The technician didn’t know why there’s such a pop up window but what he knew was that System Events.app is an application on the Mac OS X Snow Leopard Install Disc and he was very positive about it. So I decided to eject the DVD and reboot the system, just to see if this window pops up again. The answer was, no. So it’s all good now!
I’ve only been using my Snow Leopard MacBook for 2-3 hours to this point and I’ve already found a lot of enhancements! Here are some of the obvious ones!
- Freed about 9GB of hard drive space
- Much more user-friendly Exposé, dragging and dropping files across apps are so easy now with the improved Dock
- Stacks are now GREAT with grid view, in fact I love using it
- It’s now easier to tell when you’re moving between Spaces
- I love the new Quicktime X (it now plays .avi files too)
- The default Chinese font is different, I personally like it although I’m hearing a lot of negative feedbacks
- Switching between different language inputs are easier now, especially if you use more than 2 languages. Like myself, I switch between English, Simplified & Traditional Chinese all the time. You can now hold the ‘command’ key, hit spacebar multiple times to switch between them (you may have different short cut keys).
Well, that’s it so far. It’s getting late and I’m super sleepy today. Will keep you guys updated when I find out more interesting features yet not publicised as much.
