The past week was ok…

It’s been a week since I last blogged. I can still remember that I was having a tough time. For the past week, I’ve been on the phone with a few friends of mine and I’ve finally told them about my stories. It was such a relief after telling these stories to my friends and indeed I felt much better afterwards.

Last Saturday, a group of around 80 co-workers went to play war game. It’s been ages since I played this sort of game. Just to give you a better picture if you have no idea what I’m talking about. You’re split into 2 teams, each person wears these camouflage outfit and carries a ball bearing machine gun with a bottle of ball bearing refills. Then you try to work as a team and shoot down your opponent.

It was fun even though our opponent team were all heavily armed (because they brought their own gear, including guns, vest & knee pads). We still kicked ass in the final game beating them 2 – 0. Woohoo~

We were exhausted after the game, since most of us didn’t get much sleep the night before. Some of us went drinking and for me, I just couldn’t fall asleep as well and ended up going there with no sleep at all. Straight after the game, we decided to go for a massage in Shenzhen. Since Tin Shui Wai is fairly close to China already. So after a shower at the club house, off we went.

We stayed there at the massage place till Sunday, which happens to be Mother’s Day. So, I came home around dinner time to have lunch with my family.

Yeah, I guess the past week was ok…

Lamma Island

As the first quarter of 2009 came to an end, our colleagues decided to throw our leader a farewell party. They’ve selected the Lamma Island, the closest island to Hong Kong on the south-west. Had to catch a ferry to get there obviously and it didn’t take long. We got there around 2:15 in the afternoon and as soon as we got there, we had something to eat. One of colleagues suggested that we should go eat kebabs at a well-known fast food shop, so off we went. It was indeed very nice. At round about 3:15, we all gathered and started the day’s plan.

Haven’t flew a kite for years. Last I remembered was when I was in Sydney, spent hundreds of dollars on a kite. Played with it for… I guess… once at Bondi Beach and that was it. Today, we have a kite for every 2 of us, with around forty-ish kites on the sky at the same time. To be honest, it was quite a scene.

40-ish kites

We spent about an hour flying kites and at the end, we were tying strings off other reels and joining them together. Our kites flew higher and higher. At that point of time, there was another activity. We had to make something from whatever were on the beach to something interesting. Well, obviously, sand and rocks were the best choice… or the only choice…

At first, we had no idea what to make and was just piling a stack of rocks for no reasons. Eventually, we come up ideas like…

Let’s make an Ox! (Since it’s the Year of Ox)

Let’s make a fish!

Let’s make a turtle!

We went through quite a lot of ideas! At the end, we decided to make a shark! Well, no special meaning really. Just wanted to make one. Then we made up stories on why we wanted to make a shark at the end.

The shark we made...

Not bad huh? Well, it was almost 5 when we’re done with this. So we quickly packed up then moved on. Our next activity was to walk from Yung Shue Wan to Picnic Bay. There’s this nature walk trail that leads to Picnic Bay from where we were at the beach. The walk took just round about an hour, but as for my conditions that day, it was hell…

By the time we got there, the sun was just setting. Very good timing! We were so hungry and as soon as we got to the restaurant, our orders were served. Everyone was getting really tired after the trip and we all went home as soon as we landed back on Hong Kong Island.

It was a really fun day!

Standard Chartered Marathon 2009

It’s a big day in town! The Standard Chartered Marathon is on today! I entered the 10km Run 2 which starts at 06:00.

Because mahjong the night before, I got to my friend’s place in Causeway Bay at around 02:00 and immediately tried really hard to sleep. 30 minutes have passed and I’m still wide awake. Another 30 minutes followed by another 30 minutes and I’m still struggling to fall asleep. By 04:30, my friend Miranda rang and asked when I’m going to the starting point then we made a time to meet near the car park next to the Victoria Park tennis courts. So bugger it! Got out of bed and had a shower.

I left my friend’s place at 05:00 and as soon as I got on the streets I see heaps of people dressed in their running gear ready for the event. I wasn’t bringing any luggage to be stored away so I was ready as soon as I got there. Started warming up while waiting for my 2 friends/co-workers near the tennis court carpark.

It was still dark when we got together and started walking to the starting point.

We were already on the bridge before 06:00 (the official starting time of the 10km Run 2). Everyone was so excited! The atmosphere was great! After taking this photo, on our way to the starting point, a familiar face was kinda of staring at me… It was my never met Twitter Buddy @doublechin!!! OMG~! Went over and had a bit of a chat… Wish we had more time since it was really quite awkward at the moment.

Okay… It’s getting close to 06:00 and you can really feel the hype as the announcer of the event speaks out… ’2 minutes before the run begins!’. Everyone’s so excited!!!

Here we go!!!

Here it goes! Woohoo~~~!

The first 2 km were fairly easy as my body is still ok for it… but after the first 2 km, my cough is getting to me big time and I couldn’t breath properly. Had to pull over or walk a few times before getting to the 1st water station.

Paper cups everywhere...

Paper cups were all over the place! I couldn’t resist stopping to take a photo of it. The sky was starting to brighten up at this time. Continued running after the 1st water station only to find that my tendons of both my thighs were starting to hurt very bad. Throughout the rest of the run, I had to walk for almost 2 km.

It feels like forever to finish the run and I think I got to the finishing line around 07:30. Still haven’t checked my official finish time yet, but will post it once I’ve got it.

Every runner gets a pack of water, sports drink, fruits etc… after the race… and look at the banana dump on what’s suppose to be a water machine! It’s hilarious!

So there it is… my first ever 10 km run in an internationally recognized event, the Standard Chartered Marathon 2009!

My 1st day at work!

So here I am at work on the first day!

Getting to know new people is great! But remembering their names can be a nightmare. There hasn’t been much happening today, apart from getting things organized, like stationary and computer account. We had a great lunch at Wanchai, a nice place but just way too hot! After work, I met up with mum and did some shopping at Causeway Bay. Then met up with the boys at LFK for a drink. Then pearl tea with Siena! Went home and crashed.
